When volunteers deepen their involvement by participating on one of
our committees, they complete vital administrative functions,
helping us build more homes. Church
Relations
The goal of this committee is to engage the faith
community in furthering the ministry of HoCo Habitat to eliminate
substandard housing. The committee strives to build partnerships
with local faith groups, offering congregations another opportunity
to look outside the walls of their churches and put their faith into
action. We encourage Churches to simultaneously provide prayer,
volunteer labor, and funding resources for the ministry of Habitat.
We need your help to keep your church group informed about current
activities and what can be done to help. Consider joining this
committee as the liaison for your church.

Family Support
Family Partners provide support to the families who are in
transition to home ownership and also families currently living in
Habitat homes in Houston County. Partnering begins when the family
is selected for a Habitat home, and continues through the
construction of their home and even after the family has moved into
their home. Volunteers interested in supporting Habitat Partner
Families should be willing to make a 1-1/2 to 2 year commitment.
The services our Family Support Committee provide include assisting
families in meeting their commitments prior to and during the
construction of their home. Committee members make frequent contact
(personal and phone) with the Habitat families to establish bonds of
friendship and trust. The Family Support Committee meets as a group
on a monthly basis to problem solve and support each other in
serving their families.Contact: Hope Hicks |

Family Selection Committee
This committee chooses potential families best suited for a HoCo
Habitat house. Selection is based on need, ability to pay, and
willingness to partner. The committee holds orientation sessions for
all new potential applicants. They review the newly received
applications according to the Family Selection Procedures. When a
family has passed through the first few screening processes, 2 to 3
committee members visit the home to look for substandard living
conditions, overcrowding, unsafe location, etc. This is a critically
important, behind the scenes job.Contact: Rodney Ballard |

Hospitality Committee
There is a special place on our jobsites for warm and welcoming
people who can make construction volunteers feel at home when they
arrive. Responsibilities include early arrival at the site on
scheduled mornings, directing volunteers to the sign-in book, and
making sure that new people are welcomed and receive adequate
direction.
We also like to show appreciation to our volunteers by providing
lunch on Saturdays, and Hospitality Committee members help to locate
interested people or groups to help us accomplish this goal. We
invite anyone who is interested to prepare a pot of chili, make
sandwiches, or just buy pizza to build the spirit of hospitality and
community at our jobsite.

Construction Committee
This committee is responsible for timely and cost-effective
completion of house construction. The committee identifies
lowest-cost vendors, gift sources, and other means of acquiring
materials at low or no cost. Committee also plans out work days,
brings in appropriately-skilled volunteers as needed, orients and
trains volunteers and, bottom line, gets the house built.
Construction experience, either hands-on or administrative, is a
plus!Contact: Art Warner |

ReStore Committee
The ReStore committee is comprised of individuals dedicated to
ensuring the success of our new and used building materials store.
Tasks vary from filling in when the ReStore manager is off, looking
for volunteers, and most importantly, keeping our shelves stocked by
soliciting donations from local businesses. ReStore committee
members are also responsible for informing the public of the goals,
needs and activities of the store by using various media and
increasing business through word of mouth and other publicity
campaigns.Contact: Blake Lambert |

Development Committee
The Development Committee cultivates sustainable financial resources
in Houston County. Through a series of special donor events the

potential donors. The Development Committee coordinates activities
with the Fundraising Committee events.Contact: Kathy Cripe |

Fundraising & Public Relations Committee
Our Fundraising/Public Relations Committee plans and executes events
to raise funds and works in the community to raise public awareness
of the Habitat mission. Regular events include the annual golf
tournament each spring and The Taste of Giving and Silent Auction in
the fall. The committee also raises awareness of the HoCo Habitat’s
status as a Combined Federal Campaign agency each fall. Improving
the public awareness of the Habitat mission in a way that encourages
support involves working with the media, mailed and emailed
newsletters, writing articles for newspapers, publishing news
releases and speaking at churches and civic groups. When you develop
a passion for the Habitat mission, it is easy to talk with groups to
“tell the story” and fundraising events are lots of fun because
everyone is working toward the same goal, offering a hand up to
hard-working low-income families.Contact: Tom Prior |
