Youth United at Houston County Habitat for Humanity invites youth of all ages to fund and build a home in partnership with a local family. Older youth (over age 16) build the house, while youth of all ages can share their imagination and energy with us in the effort to end poverty housing.

The four goals of Youth United are to:

  • Involve youth in their community.
  • Engage youth in Habitat’s mission of eliminating poverty housing.
  • Foster teamwork among diverse groups of youth.
  • Develop youth leaders

Youth United brings together youth from all over Houston County in an effort to fund and build a house with Houston County Habitat for Humanity over the course of each school year.

Why should your school get involved with Youth United?

Service Learning Opportunities
Students can learn through service to Habitat for Humanity. State Farm has provided Habitat for Humanity with an extensive curriculum of materials for middle school students in the subjects of English and Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies. For high school students, the possibilities of service learning opportunities are endless! Contact the Youth Programs Coordinator at Houston County Habitat for Humanity to develop your service learning lesson plans.

Community Service Hours
Students who need to meet community service hour requirements can benefit from Habitat for Humanity’s flexible work schedule. Our volunteer opportunities are not limited to the work site…we also have volunteer opportunities at our ReStore, at special events and fundraisers, and in our office.

Leadership Skills
Houston County Habitat for Humanity offers a variety of leadership positions for local students through work on various committees and individual volunteer projects. Students engaged in these opportunities will learn the skills it takes to be a leader in the community and will have a team building experience like no other!

Rewarding Experience
Students involved in youth building project will get to interact with diverse peer groups from all around Houston County. More importantly, they will get to work on the build site alongside the future home owner of the Youth United house.
