| Every
week, the sites of our future homes stir with the activity of
volunteer-driven construction. Some specialized tasks require us to
hire subcontractors, but volunteers — many of whom have no prior
construction experience — tackle the lion’s share of work. Our
skilled volunteer Crew Leaders teach newcomers all the skills they
need to meet our high standards of construction. By involving people
from all backgrounds in construction, we find that not only are we
building houses, we’re also building community. The homes we build
are simple, decent, and affordable. Averaging about 1,050 square
feet each, Houston County Habitat homes consistently impress those
who tour them. How do we build our homes so well? It starts with
the devotion of everyone involved.
